Castle House and its collection is a fitting memorial to Sir Alfred Munnings who lived here from 1919 until his death. He lived and worked in the unique setting of Castle House for over 40 years, calling it,'the house of my dreams'. Famous for his racehorse and equestrian paintings many consider his best pictures were prior to this period, when he recorded English, and in particular East Anglian, rural life. Castle House, a mixture of Tudor and Georgian periods, has been restored structurally, along with Munnings' original furniture enabling the essential character of the house as lived in by the Munnings' to be retained. Two more galleries have been added and his paintings are displayed in pleasant and attractive surroundings. The house stands in spacious grounds with well maintained gardens which visitors are welcome to walk around. You can also view his original studios where he painted some of his most famous paintings and displays many of his original working materials. A considerable number of pictures have been purchased by the Trust.
